The Emilio Pucci fashion house was founded in 1951 by Emilio Pucci, Marquis of Barsento. Four years before, in 1947, the designer created a ski ensemble that comprised a hooded parka and tapered ski-pants. The outfit, worn by a friend on the Swiss slopes of Zermatt, was captured by photographer Toni Frissel who would later immortalize many of Emilio Pucci’s designs in his photographs. But it was not until 1950 that Emilio Pucci decided to dedicate himself fully to the fashion business. A year later, Emilio Pucci presented his first collection at the Palazzo Pitti in Florence, introducing a new style called sportswear chic. The designer’s early collections were characterized by a predominant reliance on black and white, but by 1953, Pucci began developing his signature prints in bright colors. It was the first time that such pulsing geometric patterns had been incorporated into clothing and the effect was highly original, so much so that the international fashion press, smitten by his bold, radical approach, crowned him 'The Prince of Prints”. Emilio Pucci’s boldness paid off when his collections became popular in the early 1960s. Although Mr. Pucci himself died in 1992, his 30 year old son, the Marchese Alessandro Pucci di Barsento, took over the running of the family business and estates. However, sadly, Alessandro was killed in a car accident in 2000 near Florence, Italy. For a while his sister Laudomia handled the creative designing. The fashion company was bought by Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy in April 2000. The company went through many creative directors during the next eight years including Julio Espada, Christian Lacroix, and Matthew Williamson. In March 2015 the Italian designer Massimo Giorgetti was appointed Creative Director. Working out of the company headquarters in Palazzo Pucci in Florence, he carries on the trailblazing vision of founder Emilio through his ready-to-wear and accessories collections, as well as through special projects. The Emilio Pucci product line includes apparel, handbags, small leather goods, footwear, eyewear, beachwear and silk accessories. Graduating from Central St Martin’s in 1993 alongside Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen, Emma Cook is unavoidable when it comes to British fashion. Born to Manchester in 1975, Emma, made her way onto the CSM masters degree after completing her BA in fashion, textiles and business studies from Brighton University. Known for her progressive digital prints, Cook worked for Donna Karan and Martine Sitbon before launching her own label. Whilst remaining faithful to her signature use of prints and dresses, she has also recently deviated into the world of accessories, shoes, swimwear and bags.
